Ripped in 30!!

My Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 DVD arrived yesterday! On Sunday May 1st for 30 days, 6 days a week this will be my program!! I am a HUGE fan of Jillian's workouts! Her personality..not so much of a fan.. but she knows the right combinations to use to effectively change the shape of your physique.

I will continue using my Turbo Fire workouts for additional cardio 3-4 days a week. Also I am taking on clean eating! I do fairly well with food but I still occasionally slip up with my sugar cravings!

I am determined to remove more jiggle and replace it with sexy muscle!

Play time is over (my mom always says that...lmao) summer is right around the corner! I'll be posting my week in review on Sunday's, sharing my thoughts on the workouts and how I think my body is responding to the clean eating.

I'm debating whether or not I should post progress pics each week?

Anyhoo, I've been saying I need to get back to menu planning so that's happening as well! Watch me WERQ!!! LOL!

THANK YOU!!!

Thank you to everyone that voted for me in the Beachbody Million Dollar Body Game!! I've made it to the top 8!!! Judges will announce the two finalist for Turbo Fire on Friday!! I've already won some sweet prizes BUT a trip to LA would be awesome :-)

Pandora playing...listening to love songs!

I am up early (as usual) listening to my Pandora stations pump out love songs. Awww I'm feeling in a way...wish my honey was here right now!

One of my favorite songs came on this morning, Keri Hilson "All the Boys," it always makes me think of my current relationship. The lyrics are exactly things I could say! I never knew love with another man like the love I have now.

When I was going through in previous relationships, I wanted to know why they didn't love me the way I desired them to? Why was it always so difficult? There is a distinct difference between then and now.

I don't just view my honey as my man, I view him as my friend...actually he's my best friend. I'd never taken the time to build a friendship prior to immediately jumping into a relationship with someone, always leading to an epic FAIL!

I know my relationship is built on friendship because my man talks to me like I'm one of his boys. He tells me things about men that would surely violate the "man code" lol! He wants to make sure if for some reason he's not with me, another man can't come along and run bullshit to take advantage of my kindness. I've done more for men (in the past) financially then I care to admit.

I've hung my neck out on the limb, opened up my wallet all in the name of love. Was the favor ever returned? NOPE! I couldn't get one single dollar back from a man that I easily handed about four grand during the course of our so called relationship.

I'd never had a man stand for me before now. What I need, I get. If I ask, I get! I'm not used to a man financially providing for me. I've always stood on my own and have taken care of mine.

Something about just knowing that the option is there lets me know my man loves me. He's making sure that I don't have any added stress, I love him for that. He would never take from me and my girls like so many had done in the past. For a long time I had lost all hope in the idea of finding the right person to share my life with. That hope was restored from our first conversation.

"After all the boys that I thought I loved before, I didn't know what love was, till you knocked on my door.
After all the boys that I wished had love me more, I didn't know what love was, never had this before."- Keri Hilson "All the Boys"

Emotional struggles

I'm feeling awful today! Yes it's Easter Sunday, yes I should be happy but right now I'm not. This being my first holiday away from my immediate family is harder on me than I thought it would be.

On top of all that, a dear friend of mine lost her mother suddenly last Wednesday. Just so happens that she's still grieving over the loss of her father whom passed 2 1/2 years ago. I am hurting for her, I wish I could've been there for her. She sent me this picture early this morning, made me want to start crying all over again.

Mama Edith, Tia & Me

I don't even remember how old we were when we took this picture but Tia and I have been friends since 6th grade, I was a bridesmaid in her wedding. I keep praying for her strength.

Then to put the icing on the cake, my honey and I are having our first fight disagreement. I said some very hurtful things to him yesterday, not intentionally to hurt him but out of frustration. It really rattled him. It's never my intent to purposely hurt someone that I love, so not talking to him right now until he gets over it is difficult. Words are just as powerful as actions.

All I'd really like to do right now is curl up and cry myself back to sleep. What I'm going to do is get up, workout and try to enjoy the rest of my day with my girls. Happy Easter!

My 110 pound (and counting) weight loss in pictures!

I thought it would be fun to showcase some of my photos along the way in a video! Quite a few of the pictures have been posted here already but for those that are new followers, it's a continuous look into my journey! I chose the song based on what I actually did!! Enjoy!

So what's next?

First and foremost I have to give a BIG thank you and virtual hugs to everyone that voted for me in the Beachbody Million Dollar Body Game!! Winners of this round will be announced on April 29th!

I'm excited about the outcome, I've worked SO hard at changing my body. I've also heard from a ton of people in the past week telling me that I am inspiring them to get moving! I'm humbled by it all, a bit overwhelming for me. Sharing my weight loss journey is leading me down a path I never could have dreamed for myself.

When people were telling me a year ago that I should start motivational speaking, I laughed! Who me?? Miesha Roshawn?? Nope! I'm SO quiet and reserved, when I was younger my mother called it "sneaky!"

Seriously though I've got so many things to consider. Sky is the limit as far as I'm concerned!

I see beauty in many things...

The ceiling at the Houston Children's Museum

There is a beautiful meaning and purpose behind my story. I now know what that is!

Someone said my belly wasn't THAT big!

A lady sent a message to me the other day a bit down on her progress. She asked me how I got my belly to go down even though my belly wasn't as big as hers when I started?

I hadn't posted any old side profile pics before now. I want people to know that it's not about where you are it's about where you are headed!

This is where I'm headed...and that is where I was...

I had a lot of belly, arms, thighs and ass too! I didn't just want to lose my belly, I wanted to decrease fat from everywhere! I found workouts that I loved and worked everything!

Just remember whatever workout you choose to do, stick with it and up your intensity. The more you sweat, the more you burn! If you're barely breaking a sweat you aren't working hard enough! Also if you don't sweat much in the beginning (I didn't) your metabolism is probably running at a snails pace. I used to tell people that I don't sweat lol!

I sweat buckets now and I LOVE it! Try not to be too focused on one area of your body that you'd like to change. Focus on your entire body and mind. Essentially it's your mind that has to change first, without that being right all other things will crumble! Including your will to keep pushing when the scale is at a standstill.

Weekend foodie...3!

Foodie, foodie, foodie!! Yup I was back at it again! If you'll notice from looking at previous dishes, I heart seafood! Typically on the weekend you'll find some kind of shellfish/fish on the menu a time or two!

Friday's dinner...

Whole wheat pita pizza with shrimp, feta, asparagus, mushrooms & scallions

I can make a mean pizza sauce, all I need is a can of tomato paste for the base!

Saturday's breakfast...

Scrambled eggs (3 egg whites, 1 whole egg), bacon & chili powder braised squash

Saturday's lunch...

Salad with veggie burger pattie, green apple, sweet potato, scallions, mushrooms, candied walnuts & Newman's Own light cranberry walnut dressing

My salads are the BOMB!! I throw together combos that you wouldn't think would go together, yet they work! I always like a warm topping on my salads too!

Saturday's dinner...

Whole grain penne with shrimp, salmon, crushed tomatoes, bell pepper, scallions, mushrooms & roma tomato

I loved the shrimp and salmon combo SO much with the cheese grits last weekend, I wanted to pair it with a tomato base and pasta this time!

Sunday's dinner...

Two bean turkey chili

What would you like to see this weekend? It's Easter weekend and I'm already planning my menu for the week! Yay!!

Julianni's Mohawk!

My seven year old is really starting to step into her own style. She's conscious about her clothes and has always liked her stuff to match. Just the opposite of her little sister, she'll go out of the house with fifteen patterns and colors if I let her!

Well I asked them today which style they wanted me to braid their hair in? Mimi says a side ponytail..okay cool I can do that! Julianni says a Mohawk! Uuummm okay I've never braided a Mohawk but I gave it a try, this is how it turned out!

My sister told me I cheated, apparently the braids are supposed to be smaller and the middle section pressed and curled! No ma'am!! Their hair out in Houston is asking for trouble! She thinks she's fly...I think so too!

Sisterhood :-)

When I received my copy of Essence for May, I was excited to open it up and read about the many stories of sisterhood!

Personally, I refuse to believe that you can't form lifelong bonds with other women once you reach adulthood.

Any relationship you enter, whether it be with a male or female should be built on trust. You don't just give your trust to anyone! I'm an optimistic person and I always try to see the good in people before the bad. Has this always been good for me? NO! This is a part of the core of who I am, after almost 33 years of life...I'm not going to change it now!

The crazy amount of love and support I've received over the past few days (from women I don't even know) after my feature is overwhelming! I've even started on the path to forging new friendships!

For the girlfriends I've had for years and years, I love them dearly and would ride in a heartbeat to "bust windows out cars!" I'm just kidding, I can't catch a case..I wouldn't do well in jail lol! For the "new" friends in my life I'm ready to see where the adventure takes us!

Friendship is love!

SO much love..I can hardly stand it!

Yesterday, my before and after pictures were featured on the Black Women "DO" Workout fan page on Facebook! This is a fabulous, supportive group of women pushing each other to reach fitness and healthy lifestyle goals.

The creator of the page..trainer Crystal Adell told me I'd receive a lot of responses but I had no idea!! My phone was buzzing all day long with friend requests and message notifications! I am feeling ALL of the love and sisterhood is definitely alive and kicking!

The photo on the page- how I look now & November 2009

The top two questions were, "how did you do it?" The second was "how long did it take?" I tried my best to answer as many folks as I could, but asked each one of them to visit my blog to read about my journey.

I plan to do a vlog this weekend addressing both of those questions (again) in more depth. I have to organize my thoughts on paper first lol!

Anyhoo, here's a couple items off of my menu this week.

Tuesday's dinner...

Honey mustard chicken breast, sautéed then simmered yams and garlic asparagus

Wednesday's dinner...

Cucumber salad w/ light feta, bacon bits, scallions, balsamic vinegar & red pepper flakes

I also had sweet potato fries along with the cucumber salad. I woke up this morning feeling amazing!!!

My life is an open book! Lovin' this!!!!

Weekend foodie...2!

So I was doing my foodie again this weekend! I wanted to make a couple of things that I've never made before. Both turned out very well and I'm excited to share!

Saturday's dinner...

Feta & parmesan cheese grits with shrimp and salmon

Sunday's dinner...

Tofu parmigiana

The girls didn't eat the tofu (they opted for noodles) but they loved the salmon & shrimp with grits! Damn all my good cooking and no hubby to feed it to! I'm working on that!

Please excuse my early morning appearance, I made this video at 6 am :-). I'm working on becoming more comfortable speaking on camera...pray for me lol!

Million Dollar Body Game!

Being the Turbo Fire junkie that I am, I entered the Beachbody Million Dollar Body Game! For those of you that aren't familiar, Beachbody awards large cash prizes for body transformations to people who have used their workout systems to lose weight.

I almost missed the deadline to submit my entry (I just so happened to see the link to enter on a Facebook update) but I got everything uploaded in time! I received an email stating my entry has been approved!

Wish me luck y'all in my new southern slang! Apparently a panel of judges will decide whether or not my submission will be up for the public vote! Here's the link if you'd like to read about the contest..http://apps.facebook.com/promotionshq/contests/106120

My baby lost her first tooth!

I'm happy yet a bit sad all at the same time. My youngest daughter Mimi is growing up so fast! She lost her first tooth today :-(. Here she is smiling with her tooth in a ziploc ready for the tooth fairy.

Peep her future Delta t-shirt courtesy of my sister Chaz!

I knew she'd reach this milestone at some point, did it have to come so soon?

What's in my fridge/freezer/pantry?

People ask me often, "what do you eat?" I thought it would be fun to open up my fridge/pantry to give a peek at what's inside. I enjoy eating and I have a very diverse pallet. I'm not afraid to try new foods! I have also learned to enjoy cooking in the process of my weight loss journey!

Freezer- fish, ground turkey, frozen veggies, lean pork, chicken breasts, fruit bars...etc

Top of fridge- kids sugary cereal, my cheerios, ww snack cakes, fitness water packets, snack size chips

Fridge- fresh fruits & veggies, bread, lunch meats, juice, water, skim milk, cottage cheese, light sour cream, corn tortillas, olives...etc

Pantry- canned beans, tomatoes, soups; applesauce, brown rice, rice vinegar, V8, Capri Suns, whole grain/wheat pasta, peanut butter, etc...

I've got other cabinets with staple items and seasonings, but I didn't want to bore you with the details :-). Typically you're not going to find junk food in my home but I do afford myself and my girls treats every so often! What's in your fridge?

Maintaining a 110 lb (and counting) weight loss is harder than starting the journey!

When I jumped head first into my journey, I wasn't thinking too much about the after. When I say after I'm talking about after reaching my goal. When I started this, I ate, slept and breathed reaching my goal. Well I reached my goal in January, now what?

Now I'm maintaining AND working towards losing another 15 pounds. I heard it from many, keeping off the weight is harder than losing it...so very true! After a substantial loss, I don't ever want to go back. My body isn't perfect but it's a long way from where it used to be.

Looking in the mirror is a constant reminder of how much I've accomplished. From this...

To this...

My new bikini!

A huge change but I want more change! I have to keep telling myself that my old self no longer exists. The "big girl" that used to live here has moved, she's gone! Maintaining is now a part of my daily life.

I encourage those striving to reach that goal to seriously think about after. If you're working at changing your lifestyle, taking on healthy habits, after will eventually become your reality. What will you do once you reach after? Think about it!

Random ish' 4-1-11

1. Do people in Houston recycle? Why do I have to bring my recycle items to the bins at the park next door to my house (by the way my southern sweetie thinks I'm crazy for doing this)? Redamdiculous!

2. Scrubs are comfy but I miss wearing my cute clothes to work.

3. Ro got me hooked on the Naked brand smoothies...smdh!

4. I need a side hustle asap!

5. I made a sea salt body scrub the other day that smells just like chocolate chip cookie dough! Guess what?? I've stopped baking and eating those damn Tollhouse cookies every single day!

6. As if I haven't said it enough, I really adore my boyfriend! There's nothing like being in love with your best friend!

7. Julianni & Mimi light up my life :-)

8. I need to do a favorite things list.

9. It feels good to say "NO" to folks sometimes!

10. I'm making lumpia this weekend..uummm uummm good!

Weigh day! Fools day! Friday!

April 1st already! Last month I skipped my monthly weigh in post because I took a much needed break. Well this morning I stepped on the scale and this is what it read...

Yes ma'am! I'm back and in a big way! Salads and sweat sessions do a body good! Now it's time to bring strength training back! Next week I'm all over it!

Post workout this morning

Stats look like this...

Bust: 33.25
Waist: 28.5
Hips: 40.5
Thighs: both @ 23

My goal for this month is to lose five pounds, drop another inch from my waist and thighs. I also would like to plan my menu for two weeks at a time.

Happy Friday!
